"Nelson" Rolihlahla Mandela was born on July 19, 1918 in Transkei, South Africa. He was born to Nonqaphi Nosekeni and Nkosi Mphakanyswa Gadla Mandela who were currently chiefs of the Madiba clan in South Africa. Nelson was just a simple boy living a normal farm life until his father died. Nelson wished to fulfill his father responsibilities and took over to be the ward of the tribe. Through his many years of being the ward, he heard many inspiring stories of his ancestors gaining freedom, responsibility, and as hearing this he wanted to make his own contribution to the trail of freedom as well.
Year later Nelson Mandela attended a school in Qunu where a teacher named Miss Mdingain approached him and asked him his name. He responded, "Rolihlahla." As so, Miss Mdingane gave him the name "Nelson" for it was a Christian name and his was South African. To have a Christian name would be essential in this school of his.
After graduating from high school, Nelson Mandela began studying for Bachelor Arts at the University College of Fort Hare. Sadly, Nelson didn't graduate, he was involved in a school protest and was expelled from the school.
However, he did complete his Bachelors of Arts degree at the University of South Africa and went back to Fort Hare to graduate. Upon coming back to the school, he left early to rejoin his tribe, but when he met the counselor he was forced to go back. Nelson, in outrage, ran away to Johannesburg in protest to his tribe leaders demands. When arriving to Johannesburg, he met Lazar Sidelsky, a lawyer who taught him law. Nelson worked with the law firm Witkin Eidelman and Sidelsky for a while until he decided to go to school at the University of Witwatersrand. Again, Nelson Mandela failed to graduate leading to another disappointment.
In the years to come, Nelson Mandela finally obtained an LLB through the University of South Africa and graduated.
